Federal Release Record Scope
The BOP Inmate Locator is the main public path for a sentenced federal prisoner with a BOP record. A result can display a register number, identifying details, a release date, and wording such as “Released” or “Not in BOP custody.” That finding is federal. It does not establish release from Sevier County Jail.
Federal pretrial custody is less direct. The U.S. Marshals Service manages many prisoner movements and says it does not operate a public locator equivalent to BOP. A person may be held temporarily at a local or contract site before entering BOP custody. ICE uses a separate current-detention locator. Identify the agency before choosing the search.
Search a Federal Release
A BOP register number is the clearest search key. The locator also allows biographical searches, but common names require care. Compare the reported age, race, sex, and other permitted details before treating a result as a match.
- Open the official BOP Inmate Locator.
- Search by BOP, DCDC, FBI, or INS number when one is known.
- Otherwise search by name and use the available identity filters.
- Record the register number, release date, and exact location or status wording.
- If the result says released or not in BOP custody, confirm whether another agency took custody.
A release date may be historical. It does not tell why a person left or prove where the person went next. If the federal case remains active, consult the public court docket or counsel. If Sevier County Jail was the last physical site, ask the jail whether the event was a transfer to federal authorities.
Federal Locator Result Fields
Save the precise wording and the access date because custody changes. Do not turn “not found” into a release finding. Spelling, alias use, search limits, and the absence of a BOP record can all explain a negative search.
| Field | Use and limit |
|---|---|
| Register number | Matches the person across BOP records. |
| Name and identity details | Help separate people with similar names. |
| Release date | Reports the BOP date shown, not a county-jail release. |
| Location/status | May say Released or Not in BOP custody without naming another custodian. |

The form's federal number fields make it distinct from Utah's UDC offender number and a Sevier jail booking number.
Federal Locator Contact Route
There is no local BOP facility contact card because research identified no BOP prison in Sevier County. Use national official pages for the locator and current contact information. Federal telephone details can change and should not be copied from an unofficial directory.

No BOP prison identified in Sevier County
For a BOP record question, preserve the register number and exact result. For federal pretrial custody, follow the holding facility, federal court case, counsel, and official U.S. Marshals explanation. Do not assume BOP was ever the custodian.
Note: A federal case can exist before a person receives a BOP register record or enters a BOP institution.
Match the Federal Custodian
Four systems can appear in a Sevier-linked federal inquiry. Each answers a narrow question. Moving from one to another is a transfer, not proof of community release.
| Custody type | Correct route |
|---|---|
| Sentenced BOP prisoner | BOP Inmate Locator and federal records |
| Federal pretrial prisoner | Holding facility, federal court, counsel, and Marshals information |
| ICE detainee | ICE Online Detainee Locator and official detention information |
| Sevier County detainee | Sevier Jail custody record, court docket, and Utah VINE |
| Utah state prisoner | UDC Offender Search and Utah Board orders |
The ICE Online Detainee Locator System is mainly a current detention tool, not a historic release archive. It can search by A-number and country of birth or by biographical information. A negative result does not prove community release. Contact ICE or counsel when a Sevier Jail record reports an ICE handoff.
Sevier Jail Federal Transfers
Sevier County Jail's mixed population is the local Angle T issue. The sheriff says the jail holds people for three counties and UDC. That statement does not establish a standing federal or ICE contract, and none should be inferred. Still, an individual can be transferred to a federal authority under lawful process.
Ask the jail for the departure date, release code, legal custodian, and receiving agency. If the record says “released to federal authorities,” the person did not necessarily enter the community. Search BOP only if a BOP record should exist, then follow the federal court or Marshals path for pretrial custody.
The Sevier County Jail release page gives the local record-request fields. The federal locator remains a separate nationwide source.
Read Federal Release Wording
“Released” is stronger than a blank search, but it still needs context. A BOP date concerns federal custody. It does not resolve a pending state hold, immigration detention, supervision conditions, or a later arrest. “Not in BOP custody” is broader and may reflect release, transfer, or a status outside BOP's present control.
Federal supervision records are also distinct from Utah AP&P. Do not use the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole to verify a federal prison release. A person may return to Sevier County after BOP release, but residence does not convert the federal record into a county record.
Federal Locator No Result
A no-result search can stem from a misspelled name, alias, wrong number type, identity mismatch, pretrial status, or custody held by another agency. Repeat the search only with verified identifiers. Do not broaden it through unofficial prisoner directories that lack source control.
Check the federal court case for agency clues. Ask the last confirmed holding facility whether the person departed and to which authority. If the last source was Sevier County Jail, request its existing custody movement or release entry. If ICE is named, use ODLS and the official information line.
Obtain Federal Release Records
The locator result is a public summary, not necessarily the full record. For a durable inquiry, save the result with its access date and follow BOP's current records instructions. Identify the person by register number and name, and ask for an existing record within a defined date range.
Federal access law and agency rules differ from Utah GRAMA. A Sevier County GRAMA request cannot compel BOP to produce a federal record. Conversely, BOP cannot supply the local jail's booking and transfer sheet. Direct each request to the office that created the record.
The Sevier County released-inmate overview helps reconcile county, state, court, VINE, BOP, and ICE channels when the custody type is uncertain.
Reconcile Federal Release Records
A complete federal check may require more than one record because the custody chain can cross agencies. The local jail records when a person physically left Richfield and may name a federal recipient. The federal court docket records case events. The Marshals Service manages many pretrial movements. BOP records sentenced federal custody, while ICE controls its own detention information. Each record should be read for the part it actually proves.
Begin with the last affirmative custody source. If Sevier Jail reports a federal transfer, ask for the date and receiving agency. If a BOP result later shows release, preserve both dates rather than assuming they describe one event. A gap between them may represent pretrial detention, transport, court action, or a placement outside BOP.
Do not merge federal supervision with Utah parole. The Utah Board and AP&P do not control a BOP sentence. Likewise, a federal release date does not resolve a separate Utah case or county hold. When records conflict, use the identifier unique to each system, such as the jail booking number, federal case number, and BOP register number. Exact identifiers make a focused official inquiry possible and reduce same-name errors.
Federal Release Date Context
A BOP release date should be quoted with the federal register number and exact status. Compare it with the sentencing court record when the date seems unexpected. A court action, sentence credit, administrative correction, or movement can affect the history. The locator does not explain every calculation behind the date.
When someone returns to Sevier County, local residence does not create a new jail release record. The federal result remains the source for BOP custody. A later Sevier arrest would be a separate booking episode with its own number, court case, and disposition. Keeping those events separate prevents an old federal release from being mistaken for a new county departure.
